About Architectural Arts
Experienced Architectural Guidance Rooted in Sacramento

At Architectural Arts, we believe good architecture starts with experience, thoughtful planning, and a clear understanding of how a project needs to function in the real world. Since opening our practice in 2003, we’ve helped commercial clients move through the architectural process with confidence, from preliminary design and space planning to construction documents and construction administration. Our work is grounded in decades of hands-on architectural experience, but it is also deeply personal to us. Sacramento has always been home, and we take real pride in helping clients here bring smart, well-considered projects to life with steady guidance from start to finish.

How Our Story
Began

Our story began long before Architectural Arts officially opened its doors. Before starting our own practice, we worked with four architectural firms and built the kind of broad, practical foundation that only comes from years of real project experience. After earning our architectural license in 1984, we continued developing our expertise across every major phase of architectural work, learning how projects evolve from an early idea into finished construction.

By 2003, we saw an opportunity to offer something more personal and direct. We founded Architectural Arts to provide clients with experienced architectural services across all phases of a project, without losing the attention and continuity that can matter so much along the way. We wanted our clients to work directly with an architect who had spent decades in the profession and could guide the process from the first conversation through construction administration.

That vision still shapes our practice today. We believe clients deserve experienced leadership, practical advice, and an architect who stays engaged throughout the life of the project.

Built on Decades of Architectural Experience

One of the things that defines Architectural Arts is the depth of experience behind our work. We have practiced architecture as a licensed architect since 1984, and that long view has given us perspective that benefits every client we serve. Over the years, we have seen how projects succeed, where they tend to become complicated, and what kind of preparation helps create a smoother process from beginning to end.

That experience was built step by step. Working across multiple architectural firms gave us a strong foundation in commercial space planning, preliminary design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration. Each stage taught us something valuable, not only about design, but also about coordination, communication, and the importance of practical decision-making.

Today, Architectural Arts continues to operate with that same blend of professionalism and grounded experience. On larger projects, we work with a trusted team of associates who help expand our capabilities while allowing us to maintain the personalized approach our clients value.

What Makes Our Approach Different

At Architectural Arts, we do not believe in handing clients off from one person to another and hoping nothing gets lost along the way. One of the biggest differences in how we work is that we provide direct, experienced architectural guidance throughout every phase of a project. Our clients are not simply hiring a drafting service or a design concept. They are working with an architect who oversees the project from initial planning through construction.

That continuity matters. It helps keep the project aligned with its original goals, reduces misunderstandings, and gives clients the confidence that experienced eyes are paying attention at every stage. We know that even well-planned projects can become complicated, especially once construction begins. That is why our practical, steady involvement is such an important part of how we serve.

Clients often choose us because they want that level of direct experience. They are looking for thoughtful design, clear communication, and someone who understands both the creative and technical sides of architecture. That is exactly what we aim to provide.

Our Background, Training,
and Credentials

Our professional background reflects a lifelong commitment to architecture. Peter B. Dannenfelser II was born and raised in Sacramento and earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1978. The final year of study was completed at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, an experience that added another layer of perspective to an already strong architectural education.

We have been licensed as an architect in California since 1984, and our California Architect License number is C-13845. We are also fully proficient in AutoCAD, which supports the development of clear, accurate architectural documents across a wide range of commercial projects.

That educational and technical foundation supports what we do every day, but just as importantly, it has been shaped by decades of practice. Experience in architecture is not only about credentials. It is about judgment, responsiveness, and knowing how to guide a project when real-world conditions require flexibility and expertise.

Our Specialties
and the Clients We Serve

Our practice is especially well suited for commercial clients who need experienced architectural services and a practical understanding of how space, design, and construction all need to work together. We regularly assist with commercial space planning, preliminary design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration.

Commercial projects often require a careful balance between design goals, building requirements, operational needs, and construction realities. We enjoy that challenge. Our approach is thoughtful and grounded, which helps us serve clients who want more than a concept on paper. They want a workable design and a steady architectural partner throughout the process.

We also have a longstanding interest in historic architecture, which reflects our appreciation for Sacramento’s architectural character and the importance of preserving meaningful structures where possible. That interest has been a rewarding part of our career and one more way our work remains connected to the community around us.

Rooted in Sacramento, Committed to Community

Sacramento has always been home, and that local connection means a great deal to us. We are proud to continue serving clients in the community where our life and career have been deeply rooted. Over the years, our commitment to Sacramento has extended well beyond project work.

We served on the Citizen’s Advisory Board for the renovation of the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, and we were also the architect for the owner of the Elks Tower at 921 11th Street, a landmark originally built in 1926. Those opportunities reflect both our professional background and our continued interest in the city’s architectural history.

Our community involvement has also included serving as Past President of the Rotary Club of Sacramento, participating in Rotary water projects in Thailand, Cambodia, and Ethiopia, and completing nine years of service on the Board of Directors at Fairytale Town. We believe this kind of involvement matters. It reflects the same service-minded perspective we try to bring into our practice every day.

The Values That Guide Our Work

The values that guide us are professionalism, experience, thoughtful design, and knowledgeable guidance. We believe clients deserve an architect who listens carefully, communicates clearly, and remains focused on the needs of the project from start to finish.

Professionalism means being prepared, responsive, and dependable. Experience means understanding how decisions made early in a project can affect everything that follows. Thoughtful design means creating solutions that are not only visually sound, but functional and appropriate for the people who will use the space. Knowledgeable guidance means helping clients understand their options so they can make informed choices with confidence.

We know that architectural projects can feel complex, especially for clients who do not go through them every day. Our role is to bring clarity to that process and make it easier to navigate with confidence.

Our Team
and Personalized Approach

Architectural Arts is led directly by Peter B. Dannenfelser II, and that personal leadership is a big part of what clients appreciate about working with us. For larger projects, we expand with an outstanding team of trusted associates who help support the work while maintaining the same standards and personalized attention.

That flexible structure allows us to remain responsive without becoming impersonal. Clients receive experienced service tailored to the scope of their project, while still knowing the work is being led by an architect with decades of experience. We think that balance is important. It gives clients the benefit of broader support when needed without sacrificing the continuity and direct communication that smaller practices often do best.
